My friend Melissa from Vancouver came to visit today. She’s in for a conference down in San Mateo during the week. With such brilliant weather, we felt the urge to get outside. So we headed over to Golden Gate Park and the Conservatory of Flowers.
I adore visiting the Conservatory. The smells and climate change from room to room. The architecture of the building and stained glass. The plants, and of course the flowers. They have a dedication to the old Playland in the exhibit room. A little quirky, but fun.
After walking about in the Conservatory, we worked up an appetite. We went to one of my favorite brunch places, Ella’s.
Melissa was tired from getting up early, so we went back to the apartment for a rest. Just she and I went out to dinner. We went to a hip new-ish French restaurant called RN74. I love this restaurant. Great ambiance, food, wine and service.
After dinner we went to the bar for dessert and champagne. Then over to Wilson and Wilson inside Bourbon and Branch. I’d been wanting to try this Prohibition style bar since I heard about it. Mixology at its best. Fantastically whimsical drinks with a serious kick you in the pants flavor.
We decided to try the flight – an apertif, main and digestif. Silly us, thinking we could drink three of their potent drinks. We ended up leaving the last one and decided to head out for something more our speed as a nightcap. Champagne it is. Walked down to Pour House for “one more.” Our too generous bartenders, Chase and Nelson, kept our glasses filled while keeping us laughing. Somewhere around 3am (an hour past closing time) we got home.
