2012 – A Day In The Life Of Perk

Day 126 – Friday, May 4

This weekend is when Dan and I go on our adventure up north to Lake County CA. Lake County is just north of Napa and Sonoma and to the east of Mendocino County.  It is definitely rural in comparison to Napa and Sonoma.  But very charming and small town in a good way.

We began our adventure with the drive up, silly city traffic and finally getting to our first destination, Twin Pine Casino and their Manzanita Restaurant.  There, our tour guide and trip planner Monica, along with her husband, met us to begin our adventure.

First up a tour of the casino and hotel with the staff there.  I was really impressed with the hotel facility. The rooms are very modern and high end.  I would stay there in a minute.  Their casino is very quaint. According to them, it is the only casino that is wine themed.  Wine country decorations, great wine bar and wine throughout the hotel and casino.

We followed the tour with dinner at Manzanita, a little gambling, a little local vino and an overall great time.  All three wines we tasted were perfectly paired with dinner.  2011 Guenoc Sauvignon Blanc, 2008 Gregory Graham Grenache and back to Guenoc for their Port to have with dessert.  Out of the three, the Grenache was my favorite.

The nice folks at Twin Pine sent us off with a lovely gift basket and a few dollars in our pocket after playing some slots.

Next Monica drove us to Langtry Estate & Vineyard for our final destination of the evening.  Man are we grateful that she drove us there.  It was so dark and there is little chance we would have found our way to the pool house by ourselves.

We followed her lead to the property on the vast 35 square mile estate.  We stayed at the pool house for their lodge.  Very quiet, cozy and warm.  Monica left us with a great breakfast basket to get us going in the morning.  It was full of local Lake County pastries, fruits and drinks.

We said good night and settled in for a snuggly night at the pool house on the Estate. Just lovely.
